PCP Auto Flow Valve

 

The Zenith progressive cavity pump Auto Flow Valve (PCP AFV) is a development of the field-proven Auto Flow Valve (AFV) — which has been successfully installed in hundreds of ESP wells worldwide — installed as part of a PCP completion to provide pump protection from sand and debris settlement.

The PCP AFV is situated above the pump. The main housing is installed on tubing along with the PCP stator. A drop off sub is mounted on the rod string which locks within the body of the tool when the rotor is installed, providing pump protection by preventing any solids bypass from above to below the tool.

When the PCP is off, the PCP AFV’s annular flow ports automatically open, preventing pump damage from sands and debris descending into the pump — the fluid column drains directly to the annulus.

When the PCP is on, the PCP AFV automatically pilots its annular ports to the closed position and an internal flow path opens for produced fluids.

Features and specifications

 

AFV-PCP system features

  • Allows removal and reinstallation of the rotor without pulling the valve to surface
  • Allows the rotor to be spaced out in line with standard installation procedures
  • Interlock mechanism from the AFV ensures that side ports are fully closed before production flow path is open
  • A single return spring operates the interlock and closes the valve
  • Drop off sub rotationally locked within the main tool — rod string always rotates on bearing section within the drop off sub
