XT - Extreme Temperature Well Monitoring System

With the Zenith “HT” High Temperature well monitoring system already extending existing downhole gauge temperature limitations to 260°C, the trailblazing Zenith “XT” Extreme Temperature well monitoring system introduces new state-of-the-art well technology to further push downhole temperature monitoring boundaries beyond 400°C.

A new pressure sensor was developed for this application, along with an instrument cable capable of handling the extreme temperatures. Zenith developed a new and unique insulation technique, resulting in one of the only permanent 500°C downhole cables in the world.

Greg Davie, Managing Director, believes the new XT well technology will dramatically improve the reliability of monitoring high temperature oil wells in the future:

“Zenith have succeeded in extending existing well technology limitations and gone on to develop a 400°C pressure sensor with fit-for-purpose cable, housings and connections. A big hurdle in testing the technology was that a calibration system that could operate at those temperatures did not exist — we overcame this by developing a precision 5,000 psi 500°C computer controlled calibration system.”

Zenith’s first 400°C prototype XT sensor — from a well installed in July 2009 — is still alive with further XT Extreme Temperature monitoring systems seen to operate reliably and accurately at over 450°C.

Overview

Continuous well data at extreme temperatures over 400°C

Pressure data is of primary importance in understanding reservoir and well performance. Rated to 400°C, Zenith’s XT (extreme temperature) well monitoring system reliably delivers continuous downhole pressure and temperature information in extreme temperature environments.

Increased system reliablity

With no downhole electronics, system reliability and runlife are maximised in challenging, extreme temperature environments.
