High Temperature Well Monitoring for PCP

Downhole reservoir monitoring gauges have been in development since the 1930s and by the 1970s operators were using gauges for permanent monitoring of well bore pressure. However, there has long been a need for these pressure gauges to operate at higher temperatures to allow continuous monitoring of either naturally hot reservoirs or wells where heat is applied to assist production.

Zenith set about the high pressure high temperature (HPHT) well monitoring challenge in 2007, looking at innovative new techniques to develop a reliable permanent high pressure high temperature (HPHT) gauge system. Current electronic gauge well technology was shown to only extend to 175°C, and life expectancy was low for permanent gauge installations.

The Zenith “HT” High Temperature well monitoring system extends permanent downhole monitoring system temperature limitations, operating reliably at temperatures up to 260°C.

The ground-breaking high temperature gauge was field-proven in progressing cavity pump (PCP) wells in the Middle East at temperatures reaching 247°C.

“The HT technology overcomes the historic problem of monitoring steam flood operations and also HPHT wells, with other gauges available having short life spans and giving erroneous results. Zenith now offers robust technology that performs at high temperatures, ultimately improving production and reservoir drainage.”

Overview

Continuous well data at high temperatures to 260°C

Pressure data is of primary importance in understanding reservoir and well performance. Rated to 260°C, Zenith’s HT (high temperature) well monitoring system reliably delivers continuous downhole pressure and temperature information in high temperature environments and thermal stimulation, steam injection operations such as steam flood and steam assisted gravity drainage wells.

Increased system reliablity

With no downhole electronics, system reliability and runlife are maximised in challenging, high temperature environments.
