Zenith Oilfield Technology has been selected as a finalist in the Best Production Technology category of the 10th annual World Oil awards.

The Aberdeenshire company which operates in the artificial lift sector of the global oil and gas industry has been shortlisted for its pioneering Z-Sight system.

Designed to improve efficiency and production of wells which require downhole pumping systems to bring oil to the surface, Z-Sight performs automatic data analysis in real time helping to greatly boost production.

Zenith, which launched in 2004 and now has 85 staff operating out of 30 countries, invested more than £1 million to develop the market-leading system.

Greg Davie, managing director of Zenith Oilfield Techhnology said: “Traditionally the process for optimising an artificial lift well could take days or weeks. With Z-Sight, the operator can instantly recognise and prioritise wells requiring attention and cut this turnaround time to hours. It’s a major leap forward into the realms of the automated digital oilfield and we are extremely pleased that it is receiving international recognition.”

The awards will be made at a ceremony in Houston, Texas on October 13.

Operators can log in to the ZSight system from any location to manage the field of wells. Each well is presented on a field-wide status map showing live well-by-well status.  This simplifies field management to improve efficiency, whilst a remote control function enables optimisation of the field operation through remote adjustment of the pumping systems lifting the oil.

The system’s abilities were proven in well trials in South America, increasing production by up to 30% per day.

The first three wells fitted with ZSight instantly showed opportunities for improved production.  One system created an additional £590,000 in revenue through use of the system’s remote control functionality.

Also, two unplanned well shutdowns were instantly recognised using Z-Sight’s remote access module in the Middle East. Well production was re-established quickly, reducing deferment of production and the substantial associated costs.

In another trial, a well was automatically reported as requiring attention to achieve its full potential. The system recommendations would more than double the well’s existing production rate and potentially increase revenue by £55,000 per day.

Zenith focuses on the development, manufacture, commercialisation and installation of game-changing equipment and services to the global oil and gas marketplace.

Sales of Z-Sight have been achieved in North and South America, Europe, North and West Africa and the Middle and Far East.
